3210 Challenge – 3 Weeks, 21 Challenges, 0 Plastic

3210 Challenge – 3 Weeks, 21 Challenges, 0 Plastic

1/Introducing the “3210” challenge

Plastic pollution is a critical global issue, especially in recent years, with approximately 8.8 million ton of plastic waste dumped into the ocean every year. Currently, there are 5.25 thousand billion pieces of plastic waste in the sea, about 269,000 ton floating on the surface and a much bigger number submerged deep under the water. Many studies indicate that every square kilometer of ocean contains 4 billion microplastic fibers, contaminating deeper oceanic zones and posing a high risk of entering the food chain.
Vietnam is among the top 5 countries that release the most plastic waste into the ocean, approximately 1.8 million ton each year. Not only does plastic waste severely affect the life of marine creatures, it is also detrimental to human health. Plastic pellets are found in 83% samples of tap water, and in 93% samples of bottled water. Having regular contact with chemicals in single-use plastics (such as BPA, styrene) runs the risk of developing cancer, hepatitis, allergies, nervous system diseases, endocrine system diseases and infertility.
With the slogan “I change for a Vietnam with no plastic waste”, the iCHANGE Plastics Campaign is the first campaign of the iCHANGE series of projects that aims to raise the public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste on our life and environment. To appeal to the general public for their action towards this goal, CHANGE, in cooperation with PJ’s Coffee, is organizing a challenge called “3210” from June 25th, 2018 to July 16th, 2018. “3210” is a series of challenges that aspires to change the participants’ consumer habits, limit and gradually eliminate single-use plastics such as nylon bags, straws, plastic boxes, plastic cutlery, water bottles, etc.

Change for sustainable living with PJ’s Coffee at Go-Green Day 2018

Change for sustainable living with PJ’s Coffee at Go-Green Day 2018

On June 3, PJ’s Coffee Vietnam had the opportunity to participate in the “Go-green Day” event organized by the Ho Chi Minh Department of Natural Resources and Environment. The event attracted many local Saigonese participants, particularly the younger generation, because of its meaningful message: “Let’s build a green life”.

Joining the event with high expectations, PJ’s Coffee Vietnam wants to further raise the general public awareness with our own message “Change for sustainable living”. Many activities were organized at PJ’s booth to:

– Propagate the message of “Change for sustainable living”; encourage every visitor to “say no to plastic straws” and to “reduce the use of plastic items”.

– Introduce and sell reusable tumblers which help protect the environment.

– Give out tea and coffee samples.

PJ’s Coffee Vietnam hope to have inspired the go-green attitude to many customers. We were extremely delighted when people joined hands with PJ’s to spread this attitude to more people through photos with hashtags on their social network channels. Let’s “change for sustainable living” together for a better future!

Project Management is all around us and is part and parcel of normal working life. Getting things done: at the right time, in the right place, to the right quality, on schedule and preferably under budget. It should be doable but these days given less time and resources it’s getting more and more challenging.

If everyone had some strong Project Management skills and mindset, maybe things would be a lot less challenging.

To address the above and much more, the International Project Management Association of Vietnam (IPMAV) is in the process of being born. IPMAV’s Vision is to be the premier Project Management organisation in Vietnam. IPMAV’s Mission is to promote the recognition of project management and engage stakeholders around Vietnam in advancing the discipline

To help grow the Project Management community we are holding a regular informal meetup every First Thursday at PJ’s Coffee in Sala. These events will discuss about Project Management and provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss specific issues and challenges they have with experienced Projects Managers in Vietnam.

The first event will be Thursday 4 May

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – (26 March 2017) PJ’s Coffee Vietnam today conducted its final round of the Barista Competition for Amateurs 2017, a battle between top 4 competitors who have completed in a series of preliminary competitions that began in March. Mai Thi Diem – a marketing officer of Dai Quang Minh Corporation is the winner of the competition who is rewarded a Da Lat trip and a professional Barista training course from Saigon Coffee Academy.

The finalists were judged on both technical quality and taste by a panel of judges that included experts and representative of PJ’s Coffee Vietnam. Four competitors in the final round engaged in a battle which they had to prepare a cup of Espresso with Latte art while answering questions about coffee theory from judges.

“It’s not easy at all to become a barista. I can’t believe that I’m the winner of this competition. Thanks to the PJ’s Coffee Vietnam Barista Competition, I now can prepare a great cup of Espresso for myself and enhance my knowledge about coffee, which I really appreciate.” – Mai Thi Diem, the winner of Barista Competition 2017 said.

Prior to the competition, each competitor had a chance to learn about the coffee-making process and practice their Latte Art skills with guidance from PJ’s Coffee barista. The Barista Competition for Amateurs 2017 was organized by PJ’s Coffee Vietnam aiming to encourage people to learn more about coffee culture.
